OUR SHETLANDS:

When I first saw Shetland Sheep I was so thrilled!  They were small, hardy, colorful, personable, and very soft.

A farmer’s dream:  Sheep with good lambing, mothering, foraging, and ability to withstand our winter weather,  if they have adequate nutrition.   A hand-spinner’s dream of soft fleece with such grand colors and patterns!

OUR RAMS:

S 26077 Meadowsgate Rock #551 (on left) – A Fawn Shetland Ram with one beautiful fleece!!!  He was with us for a few years but as most of our Original ewe band came from The Meadowsgate (NASSA#8145) and we also retained his daughters so we soon needed to have a new replacement ram.   shown so you can see him as he is in lineage     SOLD

S 25774 Twin Springs Elijah R707 – Black Krunet ram lamb.  He is a wide horned ram with Inquisitive and Alert personality.  He brought into our flock great horns, width front to back, and some great crimp that was different than anything we had previously!  Twin Springs Hedy 606 X Twin Springs Jonah.   A mature photo will be placed here later.

Our thanks to Bill and Sandra Truckner of Twin Springs in Avonmore, PA for this ram.  He has produced exceptional lambs and we have enjoyed listening to people talk kindly about.   I am sure he will be here for quite awhile.

OUR EWES:

 S 26069 Meadowsgate Kate #111 Grey ewe.

A stately moving ewe who missed nothing!  She was one of my leader ewes.  Friendly yet watchful, she took no guff from anyone.  She was the one who led the sheep to shelter or to shade when the weather turns bad, to water, and was quick to take her flock to safety.   She has an amazing dual fleece:   Gray short wool with Mahogany long wool. During the 2008 lambing Kate produced twin lambs, cleaned them, fed them twice and died from Toxoplasmosis.  We kept her daughter LHF #806 Katre to replace her (see below).    shown so you can see her as she is in lineage

S 26071 Meadowsgate Beanie # 218.  White/Moorit - Flecket/Mirkface.   A small Shetland ewe with a gentle disposition; she is as watchful over other lambs as well as her own… when one cries she often is one of the first to check to see why.  You often find her near the back of the flock when they are being moved to new pasture… encouraging slower lambs by voice and by hoof as needed.   Her fleece is cream with dark walnut colored patches.  SOLD

 S 26075 Meadowsgate Ashley # 539

Emsket Gray, a “bluish” overcast when the sun shines makes her gorgeous!  She lambed as a yearling and gave us Twins!  She has since started to show black spots here and there throughout her gray fleece.  FOR SALE

S 16276 Twin Springs Cinnamon # 314   A Moorit ewe with a short, dense, crimpy fleece.  Every lamb so far also is moorit, crimpy, dense and short fleeced. None have been as “frosted” like she is though.  FOR SALE

S 16282 Twin Springs Dove # 320

A Fawn ewe; I was quite surprised at the end of shearing this year to notice the dark underside markings of Katmoget though her head is solid color.  She gives me the heaviest fleece of all my Shetlands!  SOLD

S 26250 LHF Onyx # 616 - Emsket Grey - Born black, she lightened and has begun to show black patches.  She has a beautiful bluish overcast to her when the sun shines!  I was surprised to realize that I had no lamb pictures of her…or could not locate them.  Lambing as a yearling she is a superb mother and was still willing to nurse her lamb at 6 months… that came to an end quickly.

She is a twin by Kate #111 X Rock # 551      SOLD

 S 262540 LHF Nutmeg # 711

Nutmeg (with her first ever hand shearing by my granddaughter) is Moorit by Cinnamon #314 X Rock # 551  We will be getting a better picture soon as able.   SOLD

 S 262248 LHF Freckles # 611

She is a Black Sponget, a single lamb by Ashley #39 X Rock # 551.  She has since turned grey with her small white spots.      SOLD

 S 262249 LHF Kisses # 614

She is Fawn by Dove #320 X Rock # 551.  She has a lot of Phaeo.  She at this time looks like honey over oatmeal.      SOLD

 S 262259 LHF Symphony # 733

Symphony is Fawn.  She has lightened up quite a bit since this picture was taken.  She is now cream colored with a darker over coat.  She is a twin by Beanie #218 X Rock # 551  In 2008 she gave me my first ever 50% black/white spotted lamb!      FOR SALE

 S 262260 LHF Harmony # 734

Harmony is Fawn Sponget.  She is a twin by Beanie #218 X Rock # 551.  She is slightly lighter in coloring than her twin above.    Her first lambing she gave me a single large and stocky lamb…I was pleased with her mothering ability.

FOR SALE

   S 27914 Katre LHF # 806

Katre is the daughter of one of our original ewes named Kate.  We kept her as replacement when her mother died.  Her sire is Elijah.  She is turning out to be an awesome looking ewe.  Her fleece is medium grey with a black over coat; softer than her dam yet having a crimp similar to her sire.   I am looking forward to seeing what she produces in years ahead.

Thanks to Deb Hilliard, Meadowsgate Shetlands of Andover, NY for providing us with such a fine variety of sizes, colors and patterns in our ewes.   Thanks also for mentoring us in sheep and reminding me of what I had forgotten.

Thanks to Bill and Sandra Truckner, Twin Springs Farm in Avonmore, PA for Elijah ram and two ewes.  I appreciate their listening while we worked out exactly what it was we were looking for and what would improve our flock.
